Work from Home

During this unsettling time where we feel like we’ve lost some control over our daily routine, lets take back the control with having a good healthy schedule. It will help you feel mentally and physically healthy. Most of us now must work from home and we are not sure how to be productive while staying in one environment all day. Here are a few tips that could help you be productive and happy while you work from home.

Tips on How to Work from Home

1. Establish a routine

One that you can keep following while you’re isolated at home so you don’t develop a lethargic pattern of sleeping in and not having a day plan. It is not healthy for your mental health to be lethargic so get up, shower, and put some clothes on so that you’re not in pjs all day and you can mentally be prepared to work. Creating a good routine will make you happy and excited to start your day even if you have to be at home.

2. Have a to do list

And stick to it! It helps when you write down what you want to accomplish for the day and make sure you stick to the list you created! This ensures that you feel accomplished and productive at the end of the day.

3. Add personal goals to work on

While you’re schedule is temporarily different, organize your schedule so that you can incorporate a little personal time learning something new or reading something that you couldn’t normally do in your normal work day. While you work from home, things can get frustrating so make it productive and mentally stimulating for yourself as well so that you have something to look forward to. For example:

  • 8:30 – 11:30 work
  • 11:30 – 12:30 read the book you’ve always wanted to (but never had the time for)
  • 12:30 – 2:00 work
  • 2:00- 3:00 lunch break
  • 3:00-5:30 work
  • 5:30 take an online yoga class to stretch out your body that has been sitting all day

4. Take breaks & walk around

While you’re working at home it is important that you aren’t sitting all day. Take advantage of the fact that your away from coworkers and walk around your place no matter how big or small, and maybe add some stretches (neck and back).

5. Create a good work space

It is important that your work space is stimulating and you’re comfortable. Organize it the way that makes you happy! Open a window for some fresh airflow and try to dedicate place for work only so that you can also disconnect from that “work space” when you’re not working (and yes we mean this even for small NYC apartments).

As individuals we do much better with structure and a plan otherwise, we can start to feel unstimulated and unmotivated. And as much as the idea of staying home and watching tv sounds fun, it will very quickly take a toll on your mentality and make you lethargic. So stimulate your brain and be productive when you work from home!
